Michael Bauer’s review this Sunday took him to the lovely environs of Novato, where he visited Southern Pacific Smokehouse, the 200-seat big box restaurant/bar/music venue from Philip Claypool and former PlumpJack Group CEO Rick Riess. It earned two stars overall.
The all-American spot, which opened in May, caters to both families and locals, and Bauer points out that it’s primed to replicate across the region. In the end, it was a deuce rating, balanced out by 1.5 for service and a three-spot for atmosphere.
In the gallery above, get the Cliff’s Notes version of the Bauer review, as accompanied by pretty photographs. What did you think of the review? Is the ‘cue and live music enough to entice the San Francisco and East Bay folks to cross the bridge? Or would you just prefer an offshoot to open in your neighborhood?
