Carnelian By the Bay
Capping off a busy week of smaller openings, here are a few more debuts. As always, tips are accepted.
1. Carnelian By the Bay is now open for regular lounge service and weekend brunch, not just private events. As noted way back in September, it’s a rather ginormous lounge/event space helmed by ex-Carnelian Room staffers, set in the World Trade Club behind the Ferry Building. Like the Carnelian Room, the food menus won’t blow your socks off, but hey, it sure has a pretty view. Open from Mon-Fri, 4pm-10pm; Sat 11am-5pm; Sunday, 10:30am-5pm. 1 Ferry Plaza, behind the Ferry Building; (415) 391-2660 or carnelianbythebay.com
2. Southern Pacific Smokehouse is now open in Novato. For the background on the sizable Marin barbecue joint and music venue from country star Philip Claypool, please do refer to Carey Sweet’s post from March. 200+ seats, 70 seat patio, Marin weather, live music! 224 Vintage Way, in Vintage Oaks Shopping Center, Novato; (415) 899-9600 or thesouthernpacific.com
3. Tender Greens, the Los Angeles-based restaurant mentioned earlier this year, opened this week in Walnut Creek. It’s a super eco-friendly salad-centric spot, the chef is Charles Hechinger, and since it’s Walnut Creek, it’s got plenty of room: 4000 square feet, 130 seats, and a big ol’ sunny patio. 1352 Locust Street, Walnut Creek; (925) 937-5100 or tendergreensfood.com
4. Brick and Mortar Music Hall has quietly snuck into the Mission’s former Coda/Levende spot. According to Tablehopper, it’s operating under the Coda permits and right now they’re serving Indian food. Huh. 1710 Mission Street, at Duboce; brickandmortarmusic.com
